Solid state physics -
- In genral materials are three type
(1) Solid
(2) Liquid
(3) Gas
Solid are two types –
(1) Crystline
(2) Non – crystline
[1] Crystline solids :
- The solids tthey have a regular periodic arrangement are
know as crystline solid
[2] Non - Crystline solids :
- The solids does not have regular periodic arrengment
Crystal = lattice + basis
Lattice :
The arrengment of

Basis :
- Basis is on atom or group of atoms, when it attached with latticepoint then crystialone one lattice point then. It is know as mono atomic crystal.
- If group of atom attached on lattice point then it is know
as polyatomic crystal.
Unit cell :
- It is smallest cell on it’s repeatation crystal generated.such smallest cell is know as unit cell
Example – bricks of cell
Unit cell are two tyeps :
(1) Primitive unit cell –
- The unit cell which has only one effective no atoms as know as primitive unit cell or we can say that atoms placed only on cornor in primitive cell
Example :
(2) Non Primitive unit
cell –
- If there are more then one effective no of atom per unit cell, then it is known as non – primitive unit cell or we can say that there are atoms placed on place also.
- Miller indeces :
- Miller indeces are intiger coordinate of a set of tavallel plane. If a,b,c are lattice parameter and OA,OB,OC are interesept – on X,Y and Z axis by plane then it’s miller indeces are
h:k:l = a/OA : b/OB : c/OC
whare (h,k,l) are miller indices
